o Spearheaded the creation of the Central Florida Focus, including the hiring of employees, delegation of responsibilities, creation of business plans, a business model, operating manuals, logos, a website and more. Work with the community to raise funds, work with the university to earn internship credit and portfolio acceptance. Work with a business partner to create business plans, financials, presentations and investor pitches.

o Lead an editorial team of 10-plus writers and editors. Help to create story, video, podcast and photo gallery ideas. Edit stories for AP style and content.

Crime and Breaking News Reporter | Jan. 2017 – Dec. 2017
o Created videos, photo galleries and articles related to a variety of topics, with a focus on breaking news stories involving police and crime. Worked to create a balance between enterprise stories and breaking news. Edited material for content, grammar and AP style.

Orlando Sentinel

Homepage Editor | Aug. 2016 – Dec. 2016
o Ran the homepage of the Orlando Sentinel, which received more than 50 million views a month. Made news judgments about what should be on the homepage and what should be sent out as alerts.

o Helped to manage a social media audience of more than 342,000.

Central Florida Future

o Created and organized content for online and print editions. Created 15 story ideas that I sent out in a weekly pitch list to contributing writers, including news writing guidelines and the contact information for sources. Worked to edit all material for content, grammar and AP style. Handled breaking news stories involving police and crime.

o Live tweeted breaking news from crime scenes, interviewed witnesses and police officers.

o Organized coverage of the Pulse shooting, the Zika virus, homelessness, human trafficking, anniversary of the thwarted mass-shooting known as the Tower 1 incident, 2016 primary elections, the GI Bill, Chloe’s Law and the Donald Trump rally at UCF.

o Supervised team of five. Developed social media strategies for the publication’s Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram to increase reader engagement.

Assisted with the analysis and compilation of data provided by the Orlando Police Department’s use of force rates. Worked in teams to input data and create online, searchable databases. Won an ONA award for investigative journalism.
